THE CONNECTION

The Connection is the moment where magic fully accepts a Magi as its own. It’s when the wielder's abilities are activated, and are able to tap into the world's power. For most, this doesn’t occur until puberty; however, there have been multiple extraneous cases of the Connection taking place at all different stages of life. Connecting is a different experience for everyone, but tends to come to a Magi’s aid when they need it the most, whether that is simply coming of age, big emotions, and traumatic events likely play as a catalyst.

The experience of connecting is quite overwhelming, as a dormant part of the Magi awakens. The easiest way to describe what it feels like to connect, is similar to how a junkie would feel getting their fix. A wave of euphoria washes over the body, followed by straight adrenaline. Although any emotion may be present when a person finds their connection, the main and only emotions that are consistent are that of freedom and feeling complete. The magic that erupts from the body next is not that of skill or talent, but rather raw untethered chaos. Being around a Magi during this process is ill advised, due to their lack of control and overall unpredictability.

After they’ve finalized their connection, a magi will feel weak as their emotions and power learn how to reach a new equilibrium. The uncontrolled magic coursing through a Magi’s veins can feel similar to someone under high stress, causing bouts of panic and irregular mood swings. This subsides once a magi has learned to handle their emotions while under the pressure of power. The weeks following the connection are a rough time. Any strong emotions the magi might feel during this time, risks setting off unintentional magic. This is dangerous for not only the Magi, but anyone around them, and then leaves them vulnerable. Depending on the person, It could take up to a year from the time of connection to reach their full magical equilibrium. 

While the magi is still learning to level out, they are under the responsibility and care of their elders. This most commonly falls to someone in their family or coven. Having a Mentor through equilibrium, can shorten the duration drastically, to as little as 3 months. With the help of their Mentors connected magic, the underlings' feelings of ‘stress’ are greatly lessened. Through this magical partnership, the mentor is able to sense and guide their subordinate through unstable feelings, and teach them how to do so on their own in the future. 

When a magi has completed the needed training, and is deemed ready by their elders. They are sent on a month's journey of introversion. During this time they are retrospectively left on their own. It’s the ultimate deciding test of their power and strength. Left only with tomes to research by themselves, they must practice and figure out their true devotion.This is the type of magic that comes easiest to them, and is built into every Magi.
