Faefolk Lore

Hailing from their own plane of magic and known for all manners of mischief, the Fae are mysterious beings that have dipped into our mortal realm all throughout time. Some even chose to live amongst the humans and other beings here, glamoured to hide their true identity. The Faefolk encompass a wide variety of creatures that derive their life essence from one of four domains. Being creatures intrinsically tied to nature, the Fae domains are Earth, Aquatic, Air, and Underdark, and each are associated with natural locations that play a vital role in giving faefolk their sources of power. Regardless of domain, they are further divided between two courts – the Seelie or the Unseelie.

The Seelie is composed of Fae that have a soft spot for humans, those who are kind enough to correct any who might accidentally offend them. They may even be caught returning human kindness with favors of their own. The Unseelie are the darker counterpart to the Seelie. Unseelies thrive on malice and like to cause any amount of general chaos. These are inarguably the more hateful of Faekind. Though both sides have their mischievous moments and wouldn't take kindly to being insulted without retaliation, the unseelie take it further and may go after a victim unprovoked and simply for their own entertainment.

Perpetually drawn to power, the Rift opening on Bellamy acted as a beacon to all types of Fae and opened up their long-term living options, bringing them from far and wide. With the now-ample amount of Fae on the Island, it risked the chance of creating a free-for-all power-grab that the Faefolk royals would not allow. If there is one thing that the Fae despise, it’s showing signs of weakness. For this reason, the two courts came together to discuss a solution and after much deliberation, they decided to send a noble from each court to rule over the Faefolk of Bellamy. This deal created what is known as the Wildes.

Following their new accord, The Wildes first High Ladies were chosen – Audra Vanserra of the Unseelie & Vada Aestero of the Seelie. Though quite different in disposition, the pair seemed to agree on their reluctance in leaving their home. Most Faefolk shared the same reservations about living fulltime in the mortal realm and held the ideology that earthly beings are beneath their own kind. Nonetheless, it didn't stop the ladies from graciously taking their new seats of power.

After the pair accepted their new positions, the Fae were in need of a secluded location for gathering. It was not easy finding unclaimed territory as it seemed most of the island had already been occupied. Luck was on their side, however, when they found the perfect location in the woods. The only issue was the other inhabitants wanting to dwell there. Werewolves. The Seelie High Lady, created a deal with the packs Beta. Thus ensuring the safety and general protection of their surrounding flora. In return, the Fae begrudgingly created living quarters for their new neighbors and acquaintances.

It has not been alway been an easy task for the Faefolk to blend in amongst the native residents, no matter how hard they tried, they stuck out amongst the others. Their initial customs and ways of speaking were off, causing a noticeable transitional period for any new Fae on the island, and remain so to this day. Over time however, each comes to find their footing and in the public’s eye, most glamoured Fae have learned to be almost indistinguishable from the other inhabitants on the island - working jobs, studying in school, and otherwise going about their daily lives.

Over the years, The Wildes seats of power have been ever changing in efforts to appease the Faefolk settled here. One thing that remains the same despite that, is that The Wildes stays a strong force to be reckoned with. Faefolk are not required to join the court of Bellamy Island, but would do well to remember who it is enforcing their presence here.
