Hunter Lore

By 1940, World War II had been steadily developing and the United States needed every advantage it could get. No stone was left unturned, including less-than-ethical solutions that were frowned upon outside of wartime. Such pursuits were the basis of Bellamy Laboratories, a government-owned and sanctioned facility dedicated to researching biological enhancements and weaponry. Due to the Top Secret status of the activities at Bellamy, a constant military presence was necessary to maintain security at all times. It was a symbiotic relationship built on the scientists’ need for protection against discovery and the military’s need for a way to win the war. Their presence was focused at the joint base near the laboratories themselves and consisted of special forces from several branches under the name Operation New Dawn.

No one expected the series of discoveries that would uncover supernatural races on the island. Mere humans, the military personnel were at an unarguable disadvantage against the supernaturals. After the night of the full moon that claimed countless lives - both civilian and their own - there was an electrifying drive to harness the power of magic for themselves. If they could gain an advantage over beings of inhuman strength and speed, then they could also gain an advantage over other humans and put an end to the war.

Though technically successful in their efforts the first time, Noxidium was not what they had envisioned. New test subjects continued to be lured from the mainland and were put to use in developing a secondary serum with much stricter requirements. Destined to be utilized by the Military, the new serum had to be cleaner, safer, and more effective. A couple of months and many fatal failures later, Venatorid was approved.

Two months later, however, before they could properly announce their creation or put it to use, Bellamy was consumed by fire. The origin of the strange fire was unclear but by morning’s light, the once pristine lab was as good as rubble. A scientist and a “super soldier,” Raeni Hemmings and Nicolas Palchuk, were two of the survivors that had escaped the hellscape. They left the island together, seeking asylum on the mainland from the horrors they’d witnessed. Nicolas, being a seasoned veteran, and Raeni, a brilliant scientist, put their heads together to protect those who could not do so themselves. It was a task made easier by the fact she was in possession of what was thought to have been burned away that hellish night - the file detailing the creation of Venatorid.

What had been a last-ditch effort to give meaning to the lives lost after the Labs turned into the foundation of what are now called “Hunters” - an elite group dedicated to keeping the supernatural world in line. These new protectors utilized the Venatorid serum, and passed on the practices and knowledge to each new generation of Hunters.

Keeping a tight knit community with each other, Hunters are now spread out vastly across the world. They all follow the same strict rule to keep the general public unaware of their actions, as well as the presence of supernaturals. One popular sector of Hunters is localized to the island itself and referred to as ‘The Guard’. They’ve become quite infamous within the Hunter community due to the mass presence of supernatural beings there, and are everflowing in new hopefuls wanting to prove themselves.
