Magi Lore
Magic is something that has been around since the creation of the universe, just waiting to be used, though only a special few harness the ability to tap into it. The Magi are one example of such users. More commonly referred to as “witches,” Magi are undeniably identical to humans in appearance, and therefore often fly under the radar. It's the magic within their veins that distinguishes them from their non-magical kin. When a child is born to Magi parents, there is a slight chance they’ll turn out to be nothing more than a normal human. For those that are accepted by the magic, however, the Connection will occur and irrevocably set them on the path towards one of four devotions; Occultists, Pacifists, Naturalists & Anarchists. A Magi can only have one true devotion – one form of magi that easily flows through their veins that is written into them at birth, but their own responsibility to find.
While rare, there are instances of children forming the Connection. Faced with the trauma and stress of being orphaned at a young age, Winona Clarke came into her power alone, unaware, and closed off from her own kind. The girl’s struggles against the immense power growing within her inevitably put her guardians on edge and put herself on Bellamy’s radar. Warmly welcomed as their new hope, Winona – now known as Bella – embraced the odd conditions of her new home. Optimistic for the future and ignorant of what was to come, she blossomed in the sterile environment that she thought would be her peculiar forever home. The optimism was lost over the years, buried under endless pain and emotional fatigue as the scientists continuously pushed her to her limits until the day they went too far.
When the void was pierced, the energy was felt by all Magi. A select few who decided to take action made their way to the island in hopes of figuring out the source. Once on the island, they found the magi, Bella, being used as a vessel of some kind and tried to free her. They were met with a magic they had never experienced, a type of being they didn’t know. With a general lack of understanding, the Magi trio tried to expel the Voidsent, from Bella’s body. Their efforts were futile against the Voidsent’s unmatched strength. Two out of the three magic weavers were gravely wounded. One succumbed to their injuries, while the other was taken by a Voidsent before the last one's eyes.
Knowing when to cut losses, Juniper Lux, the last standing Magi, decided to save herself and run. Once in a secure location, she called her coven's sisters and brothers to both warn them of the strange happenings of the island and also its potential magical advantages. It didn’t take long for many Magi to follow Juniper’s call. It seemed like a never-ending stream of Magi answered her call as day by day more appeared alongside the girl. The magic in the air being thick and plentiful. Immediately upon arrival, It wasn’t hard for her peers to feel it fluttering through their fingers, and swirling within their veins. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Bellamy had overflowing potential. After tapping into the abundant magic, many of the group came to the same conclusion of wanting to stay and build their own legacy here.
They formed a new coven on the island, and after just a few years became quite established. The Magi have mostly kept to themselves on the island, watching, learning, and expanding their craft over the years. They know well of the other creatures on Bellamy and even use them to their advantage when it suits them. For the most part though, The Coven tries to keep a neutral position. The powerful magic of the dimensional rift makes the land the ideal place to create and perfect new spells. Those still learning and those who have mastered their gifts both agree that Bellamy’s magic is easier to wield. With other supernatural’s around every corner, it’s a good thing too.
Today, The Coven is a prosperous Alliance. Gaining recognition among all Magi, and known as one of the finest and strongest Magi groups. Many Magi from across the world come in hopes of joining while others come simply for the Island's power itself. Whatever the case, the magic around Bellamy Island is plentiful enough for everyone.
