GENERAL ABILITIES

Enhanced Senses

Even in human form, werewolves experience enhanced senses, such as being able to smell the mood of nearby humans and hear conversations from afar.

Sight/Smell/Sound/Taste/Touch ☆

Werewolves experience heightened senses, including sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch. They can see farther, smell subtle scents, hear nearly inaudible sounds, taste new depths of flavor, and can be hypersensitive to touch. This constant overstimulation is overwhelming and possibly one of the reasons they are known for having short fuses. Pups and yearlings, in particular, can struggle with adjusting to the new world this creates.

Focused Senses â˜…

Whether werewolves enjoy or hate their heightened senses, they eventually become used to the sensory noise this can create. With time, practice, and effort, werewolves can focus a sense on a specific person or thing. This focus could be to hear a particular conversation, gauge someone’s emotions, or really enjoy that plate of spaghetti. Using this ability often comes with a signal of use, such as the ears elongating or visibly twitching, eyes shifting color, nose twitching, etc.

Enhanced Physical Abilities ☆

Including strength, speed, agility, and endurance, a standard werewolf is three (3x) times as strong and twice (2x) as fast as normal humans and typically moves with grace.

Shifting

Creatures of the land and moon, werewolves possess the ability to shed their human skin in exchange for claws and fur. The shift is neither quick nor painless, and werewolves are utterly vulnerable from one form to the next. Shifting can be draining, particularly to those new to the moon, and the first year of Full Moon Shifts are rarely remembered. That said, there are several types of shifts, categorized as follows;

Partial Shift ★

This is the ability to change only certain body parts, such as turning hands into claws. Each body part shifted requires one (1) ★ of power. Partial shifts can occur in response to tension or strong emotions. In these instances, they can act as warning signs that a Full Shift is about to happen.

Full Shift ★★★★

Werewolves can shift into their wolf form at will without the Full Moon. Sometimes, the shift takes them unexpectedly, especially in moments of high tension or emotion. Full Shifts can take up to 30 seconds, leaving the werewolf vulnerable during this time. Young wolves, especially within their first year, are highly susceptible to unexpected shifts due to strong emotional states.

Moon Shift ★★★★★★

Whether it’s believed to be a gift or a curse, the powers werewolves are capable of are intrinsically tied to the moon. As if paying homage to this fact, werewolves cannot control their shift once a month. On the night of the Full Moon, wolves will shed their skin and run in furs. The only exception to this rule is pregnant wolves, who will not shift until they’re no longer pregnant. The process is painful and highly taxing, often resulting in hours of sleep needed afterward. (Read: Shift Coma)

Beast Shift ★★★★★★★★★★

When the need calls for it in times of great peril or war, werewolves may abandon their humanity in favor of a bipedal, bestial form and fully let their wolf free.  This form pushes all physical abilities to the limit and requires significant recovery afterward (Read: Shift Coma)

Forced  Shift ★★★

This ability is pack specific and can only be used by packmates. Some strong wolves can force others to change or stop them. Forcing and preventing shifts require the same energy output. The werewolf forcing or stopping a shift must be at least one (1) level higher than the werewolf they are forcing. A Full Moon shift cannot be stopped.

(If forcing a shift, this will consume the energy of the other party. so OOC consent must be obtained before forcing a shift).

Healing/Regeneration

Werewolves have a natural ability to heal three (3) times faster than humans. This ability is one of the reasons why wolves do not fall ill and rarely require medical attention when injured. While all wolves have the ability to heal others, only Healers can do so without suffering grave consequences.

Healing/ Regeneration ☆ to ★★★★★

The ability to heal oneself without conscious action. The body will automatically prioritize healing when a wolf has been injured. If a wolf is injured beyond minor, superficial injuries, their body will consume as much energy as necessary to heal itself. A shift is required to stop bleeding and heal large and/or deep wounds. (Read: Full Shift)

Healing Others ★★★ (Healers) / ★★★★★★★★★★ (Non-Healers)

An ability that rarely comes without detrimental effect. Those with the ability can heal wounds inflicted by silver or wolfbane and speed up the healing of werewolf- or shifter-inflicted injuries. Those who are not Healers heal others at their own peril, usually as a last-ditch effort to save another. Unless they are a powerful wolf, the one healing the other will fall into a Shift Coma-like sleep as their body heals the damage caused by expending such tremendous amounts of energy.

(Read: Shift Coma)

Pack Communication

This ability is pack specific and can only be used by packmates. Pack Communication allows wolves to speak mind-to-mind and ignores language barriers and other communication-based hindrances. This ability is natural in the wolf form but will require energy to use in human form. (Wolves must complete the Ritual on their first Full Moon with the pack to have the Pack Communication ability).

Human Form â˜…★

In human form, this ability works similarly to telepathy between two packmates. The wolves must be able to see one another to establish a connection. If the wolves break the line of sight for more than ten (10)  minutes, additional energy must be used to re-establish the connection.

Wolf Form â˜†

In wolf form, this is an open connection that is natural and requires no additional effort. Packmates need not see each other to access the link, but singular communication is impossible. What is said through Pack Communication is communicated to all pack members currently in their wolf form. (Read: Pack Mind)

WEaknesses

Silver, Wolfsbane, and Injuries

Any general contact with silver or wolfsbane will cause werewolves harm. In rare cases, some wolves can have a severe allergic reaction resulting in anaphylactic shock when exposed to either. Contact with the metal would feel the same as touching fire and leave similar marks. Contact with Wolfsbane would feel like being burnt with acid and leave similar caustic marks. The smell of Wolfsbane will irritate a wolf’s nose. To heal a wound caused by silver or wolfsbane, a vampyr/shifter, or a fellow werewolf, a Healer is needed. Otherwise, the damage will heal at half the rate of a human. (Read: Healing/Regeneration)

High Body Temperature/ Metabolism

Werewolves run hotter than most other races. Due to this, a werewolf’s skin is hot to the touch and is easier to detect via heat vision. They also have a significantly higher metabolism and experience heightened appetites. For some wolves, the curse of lycanthropy means an unending unquenchable hunger. Drugs and alcohol have little to no effect on werewolves unless consumed in mass quantities, and it’s nearly impossible for a werewolf to become addicted to non-magically enhanced substances.

Full Moon

A werewolf’s power is intrinsically tied to the moon. Wolves are hyper-aware of the current moon phase and the approaching Full Moon. The week preceding a Full Moon is full of painfully heightened senses and excess energy, often leaving wolves agitated and quick to anger. On the night of the Full Moon, all wolves must transform. There is no way to stop a Full Moon shift, only delay it by a few hours. Delaying a Full Moon shift will require a Mental Cage ring and will result in an additional ★★ of energy consumed. (Read: Moon Shift, Shift Coma).

Temperament

Werewolves are quick-tempered. Being hot and hungry all the time, mixed with being unable to hide their thoughts and desires from their pack mates once a month, creates a short fuse. The overstimulation that comes with being a werewolf takes considerable time and practice to adjust to, leaving pups and yearlings particularly predisposed to explosions of emotions. If a werewolf becomes too agitated, a shift may occur. This is usually signaled by partial shifts. Emotional shifts are widespread the week of the full moon but can be combated through a ritually acquired ring. (Read: Full Shift, Partial Shift)

Shift Coma

Tapping into the beast can be highly taxing. When a werewolf has used more energy than they have, their body will shut down into a deep sleep. The Moon Shift is particularly hard on most werewolves, leaving most wolves to greet the morning sun with an 8-16 hour sleep, giving this condition its name as the Shift Coma. During this sleep, werewolves are entirely vulnerable and cannot be awoken. Wolves are required to sleep for eight (8) hours per additional ★★ energy consumed. If a Shift Coma happens before noon, the wolf will wake up with zero (0) energy for the remainder of the day. For example, if a wolf has ★★★★★ (5) energy and completed a Moon Shift, they will be required to sleep for eight (8) hours uninterrupted. (Read: Moon Shift)

Pack Mind

As powerful as communicating ideas through thoughts is, it also has considerable drawbacks. While a werewolf is in wolf form, and their mind is held within the bubble of the Pack Communication, no idle or wandering thought goes unheard. The Pack has no secrets when they run together in their furs. This weakness does not affect Pack Communication in human form. (Read: Pack Communication)

The Hunt

Once the Change is complete, a werewolf can easily find themselves consumed by a singular mission - hunt vampyrs. The instinct comes as naturally as breathing; at that moment, the “why” may not be understood or even considered important to the individual. Friend or foe, lover or enemy, familiar scent or stranger - it doesn’t matter to the beast. If there is a vampyr within the vicinity, there will be the irresistible urge to hunt them in wolf form. Due to this, even in human form, many werewolves disdain vampyrs and actively avoid their presence.
